Flower: Various colours
Features: The golden rule for indoor orchid care is to try to mirror their natural environment and growth behaviour as much as possible. Their exposed roots cling to rough bark as closely as possible. Orchids can not be grown in regular potting mix, they must be grown in Orchid growing medium.
Light: Lots of bright, indirect light. Keep out of direct sunlight, it can burn the leaves.
Water: Allow medium to dry out completely between watering. Use the roots as indicators: If they're plump and white or green, they're well watered. If they're shrivelled and grey, they need water.
Temperature: Generally, they do better in warmer temperatures. Different varieties of Orchids have different temperature requirements.
Humidity: Preference for higher humidity levels. Often thrive in humid washrooms. Do not place your orchid where it will experience drafts (cold from windows or warm from heating vents)
Fertilizer: Once a week use orchid fertilizer after thoroughly watering. Reduce during months that orchid is dormant after flowering. If orchid fertilizer isn't avaible, use 20-20-20 diluted to 1/4 strength.
Harmful to pets?: No. These plants are safe for pets and children. The best practice is always to keep houseplants out of reach of small children and pets.
